“I’m always looking ahead”
What is your idea of happiness?
Happiness is being able to wake up every day and do what I love—whether that’s training, competing, or spending time with the people I care about. It’s about balance and fulfillment, not just medals.
What living person do you most admire?
I admire my mother (Renée Felton). She’s been my coach and my rock through everything. Her strength, sacrifice, and belief in me have shaped my career and my life.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Sometimes, I can be too hard on myself. Over the years, I’ve learned that failure is part of the process, but I’m still working on accepting mistakes as growth opportunities.
Is music important when you train, or does it distract you from focusing on your goal?
Music is very important to me. It helps set the rhythm and energy for my workouts. Certain songs get me
into the zone, but I know when to turn it off and focus entirely on my technique.
I assume motivation is key to achieving your level of success. How do you channel and manifest it?
Motivation comes from reminding myself why I started in the first place. I visualize my goals—standing on that podium, hearing the crowd. I also remind myself of the struggles I’ve overcome, which keeps me
hungry and grounded.
What makes your heart beat faster?
Competing on the world stage. The roar of the crowd, the adrenaline right before a jump, and the feeling of flying—it’s all-electric. Off the track? Probably a great song or a challenge that pushes my limits.
Which Olympic medal are you the most proud of?
While I haven’t won an Olympic medal yet, my journey to those Games was an unforgettable experience. Every setback and comeback shaped me, and I’m proud of my persistence.
“Not every performance has to be record-breaking” is one of your quotes. What other value do you cherish while competing?
Sportsmanship. Respecting your competitors and appreciating the journey are just as important as winning. Athletics is about testing yourself and sharing that moment with others.
What’s next for you?
I’m always looking ahead, whether that’s pushing my limits in athletics, mentoring younger athletes, or finding new ways to challenge myself. For now, I’m focused on leaving a lasting legacy—on and off the
track.
