ANOTHER THING I’VE SEEN WITHOUT YOU / TOKYO

Fair talk with Tokyo International Art Fair

Please tell us your name and what do you do?

My name is Joëlle Dinnage and I am the CEO of the Tokyo International Art Fair.

How would describe your work in one word?

Challenging.

What’s the easiest part of your work?

To watch the visitors and all the exhibitors enjoy the event.

What is the most difficult part of your work?

Dealing with all the pre-event stress.

What is the most important thing you want people to feel when they go to the fair?

We create an accessible way for visitors to admire the art show and create a vibrant atmosphere. So I want them to feel the positive vibe and the good energy.

If there was a soundtrack created for the show/fair, what 3 songs must be on it?

Lady Gaga with “Applause”

Coldplay, “Viva La Vida”  which was inspired by a Frida Kahlo painting titled Viva la Vida.

Frenetics “I feel like…” Just because it is perfect!

If your show/fair had a smell, what would it be?

It would smell of roses of course, with a hint of expensive champagne 😉

If the entire show can be distilled into a color, what would it be?

Pink is our brand colour.

Have you had a dream about your work? If so, please describe.

I dream about work all the time, it is mainly me running around the art fair making sure everyone is alright and enjoying themselves.

Are your nervous about opening day?

The tension is killing me – I love it though!

Are you able to share any highlights that visitors must come to see?

Ron English is a famous street artist from USA APPortfolio Gallery from China is exhibiting some of his limited edition prints. We also have Japanese artist Araki Nobuyoshi who creates magnificent handmade and hand painted sculptures with a symbolic meaning. Andrei Tunikov from Russia also has amazing sculptures on show. Michele Righetti from Singapore has a selection of contemporary paintings that are a must-see. And artist UWA from Indonesia is exhibiting lightbox artworks that have a quite refreshing concept. HighArt Art Gallery from Japan will be exhibiting pop art paintings by TOT from Colombia who will be a hit by the locals.

Once the show is over, what’s the first thing you will do to relax?

I need a holiday and will go to a sanctuary to unwind for a couple days, before the next art fair is due again which is Amsterdam International Art Fair 30-31st August at the Beurs van Berlage. Non-Stop! Love it!
