CRUSHfanzine’s art editor, William J. Simmons, creates a visual review of Lipstick Flavor: A Contemporary Art Story with Photography (Damiani, New York 2016). Capturing his first thoughts on his favorite pages, William finds inspiration, humor and connectivity.
Edited by Jérôme Sans and Marla Hamburg Kennedy, Lipstick Flavor creates a panorama of lipstick from the world of contemporary art photography. Fully illustrated, the book, conceived as a kind of magazine, reveals a story that shows how this feminine symbol has pervaded our culture and its imagery. Bringing together more than 40 international artists and their works, from Andy Warhol’s self-portrait to works by Araki and Nan Goldin, to the compositions of Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, the book narrates a vibrant visual tale.
