GALLERY VISITS #4 / TSCHABALALA SELF AT JEFFREY DEITCH

Running from February 15 to April 26, 2025 at 7000 Santa Monica Blvd in Los Angeles, Dream Girl is Tschabalala Self’s first solo gallery exhibition in the city, presented at Jeffrey Deitch. The immersive show features new paintings and sculptures that explore the notion of a constructed self and the evolving idea of femininity through a vibrant, mind-map-like installation. Each painting acts as an intimate vignette into its subject’s inner world, merging fabric collage with dynamic, expressive paint handling to create works that are both sculptural and illusionistic. Inspired by the transformative duality of Los Angeles—a place where boundless reinvention meets a hint of dystopia—Self’s work continues her critical inquiry into selfhood and human flourishing.
