What is the first thing you did today?
The first thing I did today was make banana pancakes. I was introduced to them earlier this year, and now I always make them. One banana, two eggs, half a cup of oats and a splash of vanilla extract in a blender. Cook in a pan. Boom. I highly recommend them.
Are you superstitious?
I think subconsciously I am; if I throw something in the bin from a distance and miss, I’m convinced it’s bad luck. I have to try again until I succeed before leaving the bin.
What are you the most afraid of?
Having an injury that will never heal.

What was the most challenging component you had to work on for a period piece like The Buccaneers to build your character?
I think for my character it was understanding and immersing myself into the life of someone who grew up with such high status. Being a Duke comes with many unique aspects of life I have zero experience with.
How did you research the role?
I did a lot of research into what the day-to-day life of a Duke might entail, as well as working with Toby Sedgwick, an incredible movement coach, on how he carries himself and interacts with certain people. How he holds himself when he is with his mother compared to when he is alone painting or swimming was something we worked on a lot.
How does wardrobe enhance your performance as an actor?
For a period piece like this, the garments dictate the way you move and hold yourself massively. I found them a huge help in immersing myself in the world.
The first day on set was …..?
The first scene I shot was my proposal scene at the end of episode two. I was so incredibly nervous and excited. It was a huge scene to start with, but it was a blessing in disguise as it helped me settle into my character from day one on set.
Do you have recurring dreams?
I used to have one where I would run away from a water creature through a green marshy wasteland and wake up at the same point every time as I fell into the marsh, but thankfully, I haven’t had it in a while, haha.
Do you have a secret crush?
I don’t. Apologies for the boring answer.

What achievement are you the most proud of?
I was in a play called The Grandfathers that started at the Bristol Old Vic and transferred to The National Theatre; it was a piece of work that I am super proud of and shaped me as an actor.
What character trait do you like the most? For yourself? For your friends?
I could hang out all day with my friends with great wit and humor, so those two traits.
What’s next for you?
I hope to continue telling stories I am passionate about and excited to be a part of. A dream of mine is to be in a movie, so I hope that dream is pretty close around the corner.
