“I like revolutionaries.”
On a scale of 1 to infinity, how overwhelming is it to be on the And Just Like That set?
I would say infinity. I was lucky enough to meet Mario Cantone, who plays Anthony in the show, before filming. He really put me at ease before I even got on set. From there on, everyone accepted me with open arms and made me feel welcome, so I would say a classy 8. I still get those moments where I have to pinch myself and not think about where I am or who I am acting with.
What was your first acting experience?
When I was about six, I wrote and acted in a play with two cousins for my family. It was during the summer outside in the blistering heat of the Italian countryside. I still remember the general story of the play and the feeling I got when we performed it. It was only for a handful of family members, but looking back, it feels like something out of ancient Greece.
You co-directed a movie a couple of years ago. Is it something that you want to pursue?
Yes, and I am actively trying to do it again on various feature films. It’s not simple to raise the funds to make something, but I am confident it will happen sooner or later. Hopefully, it will be the first of many because I love directing.
Is there anyone in your family who is also in the art field?
My cousin designs clothes and started his own clothing brand, Piece Unik, where he brings together artisanal designers from all over the world. My grandfather and great-grandfather were both in the entertainment industry in Italy during the height of Italian cinema.
Who are your personal heroes in or out of the entertainment industry?
I have so many, but Orson Welles, Ernest Hemingway, Dustin Hoffman, Marcello Mastroianni, Fellini, Kwame Nkrumah, Patrice Lumumba, JFK, Teddy Roosevelt, Garibaldi – to name a few.
I like revolutionaries.
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
I love a nice “naturally.” I find it incredibly underutilized.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would make myself more musically gifted. I’d love to be able to play an instrument.
What is your most treasured possession?
In the words of Mel Gibson, playing William Wallace in Braveheart, my “Freedom.”
Do you have a secret crush?
She’s everyone’s crush. Dua Lipa.
If I tell you, “Italians Do It Better,” can you name the pop music reference?
No, I cannot, but I can tell you I had a shirt in middle school that read “Italians do it better,” I wore it to school as often as I could.
